Berkeley 3 month ~ ElephantEats.com

Wow, it’s been a long time since I posted, huh? Having a colicky newborn makes free time nonexistent. Sorry, no recipe yet, but I did manage to actually cook a meal this weekend for the first time since Berkeley was born. It wasn’t a winning recipe and was kind of ugly anyway, so you’re not missing much. Oh, and due to Berkeley’s possible food sensitivities, I’m off of dairy and soy…so basically my meals suck. Poor Nate having to deal with it. I had cooked a bunch of freezer meals while pregnant and they had cheese in them! So annoying. But Nate got to enjoy them at least…

Berkeley’s 2 month shot since I didn’t get to post it yet…all dressed up for Halloween!

Berkeley hasn’t been the easiest baby, but he just passed the 3 month mark and I think things are gradually improving. For about 1.5 months straight, he cried ALL day long. I was literally at my wit’s end. It’s so hard to have your baby crying and not be able to do anything :( The only good thing about all that crying is that I literally had no time to do anything, including eat, so that pregnancy weight dropped right off…and then some.

Now at 14 weeks, he’s becoming a little person, and it’s so so exciting to see! He smiles ALL DAY LONG. And guys, not that I’m biased or anything, but he’s seriously cute. His smile will melt your heart. He knows he’s cute, too, and uses his smile to manipulate you. Sometimes he’ll be napping and he’ll cry so I go to check on him and then second I try to put the pacifier back in his mouth he flashes a big grin.

Speaking of napping, that’s really his main issue now. He must have sleep cycles of 30 min because that’s pretty much how long his naps are. I can usually get him to sleep longer if I take him out of his crib and hold him…good for his sleep but bad for me getting anything done.

He’s also been cooing a ton and it’s adorable. I wonder what he’s trying to tell us…

We took a bunch of family portraits.

This one was for Thanksgiving- LC tried to steal the spotlight:

And the latest development is that as of Monday, I’m officially back to work :( Well, I get to work from home during December but I’ll be in the office come January. We have a nanny who just started and she’s been great, so that’s comforting.

But what I really want to share is this video Nate made in honor of Berkeley’s arrival. It’s so perfect and is a great way to remember my pregnancy and birth. I’ve already watched it like 1000 times and I tear up every time :)

  1. And thank goodness Mom was sometimes there to let you shower and eat an occasional hot dairy- and soy-free dinner! Regardless, With that devilish twinkle in his eye already, I think Berkeley will be calling the shots in the Carota household for a long time.

    • Oops, I failed to mention what a great help both my mother and mother-in-law have been! Thanks, mom :) I don’t know what I would have done without you.

  2. He’s so beautiful! I love the pics and the video <3 Hopefully in another 3 months he'll be napping like a champ!

  3. The video. Oh, the video. It’s perfect. I wish every child could experience the sort love that Berkeley is wrapped in… You guys are lovely.

    • Awww, thank you so much, Rachael. That’s very sweet of you. Nate worked really hard on that video and obviously started planning it waaaay in advance. I hope Berkeley will know how loved he is…I didn’t know how much I could love a little crying baby!

  4. Amy, I have to be totally honest, Berkeley is sooo cute!! What a face!! Perfect little angel. Yes, my daughter cried nonstop too, I still remember it after 23 years!! Then all of a sudden it stopped and she smiled nonstop too! So very happy for you both, you’re family is very precious. What a wonderful holiday season you will be having with your new little one!!
p.s. the video made me cry too!!

    • Aw, thanks, Linda! Haha, he’s a little angel most of the time, but he could def fool you with that little face. Man, people who get non-crying-all-the-time babies are so lucky…they don’t know how easy they have it. Glad you can relate ;)

  5. I’m sorry to hear you haven’t had a lot of sleep or rest. My two boys were dreadful sleepers and didn’t sleep through the night until they were two and a half. It nearly killed me. My daughter was better but she had colic that settled down when she was four months old. She slept through at eight months. He’s a gorgeous baby and that video is so precious. Nate must have put hours into putting that together. It’s a gift to Berkeley that’s worth more than gold xx

    • Thanks, Charlie! Knowing you and others have gone thru this makes it slightly easier ;) I can’t wait til he’s sleeping soundly thru the night.

  6. That is the best video! You guys are going to be such great parents to that adorable little boy! Hope you have a very Merry Christmas with your little one. :)

  7. Amy – Happy Holidays to you and your family! What a cutie Berkeley is! I remember those first months all too well. Mine had a milk allergy and other issues that I was totally unprepared for. I don’t know how I made it through…but I did and you will see that it (eventually) gets better and easier. Here’s to a New Year filled with lots of sleep for everyone and plenty of smiles and new adventures. : )

    • Thanks, Monica…Happy New Year! We think Berkeley has a milk allergy and possibly soy, so I’m off of those foods right now. I’m sure you can sympathize with how hard that is. I don’t want to wish time away but I”m definitely looking forward to when it gets easier :)

  8. Awwww, this makes me so happy! Nate wins Daddy of the year with this video – what a sweet way to share the last 9 months. I watched the entire thing and just kept smiling, especially when I saw Berkeley in your arms in the hospital. And LC! Hahaha, what a great 2 legged peek at the new baby. I’m so happy for you guys!

    • Hehe…I’ll tell him you said so :) I’m so happy he made that video and we have a way to remember my pregnancy and Berkeley’s entry into this world. LC was and is still a bit unsure of what to make of little Berkeley…

Oh Amy, he IS seriously cute!!! I love that little smile of his, who can resist a face like that. Hope you’re well and taking good care of yourself. I personally found the first three months to be the hardest (such a shock to the system to suddenly have a person dependant on me for his every need).and you’ve made it!!! Well done you. Wishing you and your beautiful family a great and happy 2015 x

    • Thank you, Trishie! I think so ;) I’m sure that it’s going to get easier, but you’re right…it’s a total shock to the system! Happy New Year!!!

  10. Aaw, Berkely is absolutely adorable! Love his smile and hope you all enjoyed his first holiday season together :) Loved the video, so so sweet! Hoping things get easier and you are able to get more sleep soon. Happy New Year, Amy! *hugs*

    • Thank you, Kelly! His smile really is the cutest. It’s so hard not to smile back when he tries to engage you even though he’s supposed to be napping ;) Happy New Year!!

  11. OMG I am crying watching the video!! He is the cutest. Eternally happy for you guys.

  12. Oh, my gosh!!! Berkeley is a DOLL! I cannot believe I haven’t visited you since his birth—I can totally related to colicky babies and how rough it is to get anything done. Now time to watch your video!

    • Thanks, Liz :) Haha, well I haven’t visited your site either since I haven’t had ANY time for blog reading, as you might imagine. Glad I was finally able to get back there. Hope you enjoyed the video!!!

  13. STOP IT IMMEDIATELY. Your son is SO adorable! And that video was the sweetest thing–what a wonderful memento for your whole family!

  14. So adorable! And I truly enjoyed watching your video. So lovely.
